It is more helpful to look at sleep patterns and lifestyle factors over several days than to focus on a single worst night. A sleep diary is a record kept over several days of the time you went to bed, the time you felt you fell asleep, times you woke up during the night, your final wake-up time, and daytime sleepiness.

- This is different from simply collecting data from a wearable device. You also record caffeine intake, alcohol consumption, naps, medications taken, and how you felt the following day.
